KNOXVILLE PAWPAW AND WILDCRAFT FESTIVAL

Knoxville’s first annual pawpaw festival was AWESOME! We had pawpaw cake, pawpaw sodas, pawpaws, wild crafters, plants… all with a week of organizing.

This time around we're going to double our numbers. If you're into native plants, wild crafting, urban and rural gardening, an amazing fruit (berry) and good times, then this event is for you!

Y'all come bring your plants, pawpaws and best recipes using local foods, and get ready to learn more about this fantastic fruit. There'll also be pawpaw waffles if you get there early enough.

We have 15 tables left this year. We are not charging for tables, but it's bring your own and chairs. You must fill out the form to be accepted. 

Knoxville is in the Great Central Valley of the Southern Appalachians. We are in the heart of the Pawpaw range.  Also, we are hella central. We noticed that there are successful Pawpaw Festivals all around the states around us, and last year we decided to try one.  We announced it on Facebook like 7 days before the date--not much effort. The season was on top of us, and we didn't want to wait a year for the experiment--and the Pawpaws were ripe; the clock was ticking. We didn't even half-ass it.

To our surprise, well over 100 people came. A lot of people came because they had never had a Pawpaw before. And we found community; these were our people. The best thing that happened was that we had a circle at the start and had people who had never had a pawpaw raise their hands. Then we put pawpaws in those hands and showed them how to eat them, and they all ate. It was a blast. Afterward, we went around the circle and had them describe what they had just tasted. It was great.

So this year we are at least half-assing our effort. We have secured an all jug band; we are promoting it a month in advance--and we are offering tables.

Y'all come if you see this! It's a low-key event with cakes, pawpaw judging--and tons of free pawpaw plants and specialty genetics at in-person prices.
